The Speaker, Jacob Marksons Oboth has pledged Parliament’s commitment to supporting government programmes aimed at accelerating Uganda's economic transformation.
Oboth said that this is aimed at achieving the desired increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from US$50 billion to US$ 500 billion by 2040.
“On behalf of the 12th Parliament and on my own behalf, we affirm our commitment to the realisation of government's ten-fold growth strategy, designed to expand the country's GDP,” Oboth said.
Oboth made these remarks in his communication at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Thursday, 04 June 2026 where President Yoweri Museveni delivered his address on the State of the Nation.

Article 101(1) of the Constitution requires the President to address the nation at the beginning of every session of Parliament. The President outlines government achievements during the previous financial year, highlights key national challenges and presents the government's legislative and policy priorities.
Oboth urged the new Members of Parliament to remain focused on service delivery, keeping in mind their individual campaign promises and the expectations.
“I implore you to bear in mind that an election victory is only the foundation of leadership. What follows is the hefty responsibility of governance, fulfilling campaign promises and ensuring social cohesion,” he said.
Oboth also noted that the 2026 address is significant as it is the first of the five addresses expected during this term of the presidency.
As a precautionary measure against the Ebola outbreak, physical attendance at the ceremony was restricted to MPs.
The Speaker at a later date causes debate on the SONA whose resolutions are sent to the President.
