Day 3 of swearing-in of Members of Parliament - highlights

Members-elect continue to take oath on the last of the three days’ exercise that commenced on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.

The morning session saw 83 members take oath at the same venue at Parliament Building, bringing the total to 441 so far.

On Friday morning, National Unity Platform (NUP)’s Hon. Teddy Nambooze (Mpigi district woman representative) opened the day promising to bear true allegiance to the Republic of Uganda, to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution; and to give faithful service to Parliament.

 

Hon. Sylvia Nayebale (NRM, Gomba district woman representative/right) accompanied by her husband and other family members proceeds to take oath  

 

Also swearing-in were Minister of Defence, Hon. Marksons Jacob Oboth (NRM, West Budama Central County, Tororo), Persis Princess Namuganza (Ind., Bukono County Namutumba); two representatives of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces, Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding and Col. Christine Nekesa; and Workers representative, Hon. Margaret Namubiru Rwabushaija (Ind.) and the former Executive Director of the Government Media Centre, Hon. Ofwono Opondo P’Odel (NRM, Older Persons/Eastern).

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to end in the afternoon.
